NEC, “NUCYCLE” FORMULATION

Developed by NEC,the “Nucycle” plant based formulation illustrates the NEC Group’s unique material development technology and capabilities. Nucycle significantly expands the application of Ingeo PLA bioplastics into products where performance features such as durability, safety, and high levels of flame retardancy are of paramount importance. Life cycle analysis (LCA) demonstrates that “Nucycle”, with high Ingeo bio content (75%~plant based) offers significant carbon footprint reduction, lowering CO2 emissions.

RPC SUPERFOS  PAIL AND PAINT

A unique collaboration between three different companies has led to a groundbreaking result within paint and packaging. Both the pail and the paint under the brand GEODE are plant based.  For a plant-based paint, they found it obvious to develop a container that also holds renewable resources. A specific grade plant-based plastic has been developed for the purpose. It derives from starch, a natural renewable polymer widely produced by plants by atmospheric CO2 capture. Their paint GEODE contains up to 97 percent natural ingredients.

CHRISTIEN MEINDERTSMA & JIN KURAMOTO CHAIR

Christien Meindertsma's chair has won two Dutch Design Awards for its innovative use of flax fibre combined with bioplastic. The furniture is made from biodegradable flax fibres combined with polylactic acid (PLA), a bioplastic made from sugar cane or corn starch. Kuramoto designed the Jin chair for Swedish furniture brand Offecct. They presented it at the Stockholm Furniture Fair as part of the city's annual design week, and it was named best product in show by a jury. Kuramoto devised a method that involves building and shaping thin flax fibre layers on top of each other to form both the seat and frame. A resin is then used to solidify the structure.
